After 20 years of teaching at the elementary level, I moved to the Jr. High School and taught art, which had been my major in college. With retirement, came the renewed excitement of exploring my own art. Color pencil, graphite and batik had always been my favorite media, but now I wanted to learn all the possibilities of watercolor and pastel. While teaching art I would tell my students that art was everywhere, whether we were conscious of it or not, and that it was the process of creating art that would bring the greatest joy and satisfaction.
My connection with AAIE began five years ago, when I heard about the group and that they had monthly demonstrators in various media. It only took one visit and I was hooked. Here I found fellow artists with a wide range of skills and talents, but with a serious goal to promote the world of art. The fellowship with these members was definitely a plus too. Having never been just a “spectator”, I jumped in and soon became the Associations’ Photographer and Historian for 4 years, moved on to the job of Show Chair in 2011, and now, have taken on the challenge of President. |
